Default Power seems quite expensive ?

Power seems quite expensive in Chicago at steadfast at $50 per amp... I'm looking at another colo facility on the east coast where power is only $15 per amp for a single server colo. Is the high per amp cost here a green initiative or a more finite resource in Chicago than in other cities?

For single server colocation the power is our prime cost. We have a set amount of power and cooling in our facility, so we are encouraging people to use as little power as possible. This was largely covered in our blog article from when the changes were made: http://steadfast.net/blog/index.php/...pricing-change

I guess it will be great for the customer when cpus like the atom, etc. become so robust that no one needs or wants more for basic web servers. Still seems pretty pricey in chicago per amp to me, but maybe it will all even out and push to running a more energy efficient server in the datacenter where bandwidth is cheap and power is pricey and keeping the old inefficient chips home where power is cheap and bandwidth is pricey. It's hard not to want to 'overdo it' I guess.

To give me a better handle, do you know how much power your standard dedicated offerings here use each? For example, if I coloed a server matching this:
    Server: Core 2 Duo E8400 (12 In Stock) [$189.95/month]
3.0Ghz 6MB Cache Core 2 Duo (Dual Core)
4 GB Registered ECC DDR memory
    Managed Services: Basic Management
    Bandwidth Billing:
(more info...) Monthly Data Transfer (GB)
    Total Bandwidth: 2000 GB
    Operating System:
    (more info...) CentOS 5 (Latest)
    OS Architecture: 64-bit (x86_64 / amd64)
    Control Panel: cPanel [+$25.00/month]
    Additional RAM: None
Hard Drive 1: 1 TB SATA Hard Drive with NCQ [+$100.00 setup]
Hard Drive 2: 150 GB 10K RPM Raptor SATA Drive [+$320.00 setup]
Hard Drive 3: 150 GB 10K RPM Raptor SATA Drive [+$320.00 setup]
Hard Drive 4: 150 GB 10K RPM Raptor SATA Drive [+$320.00 setup]

(not standard on the hard drives)

how many amps would be required would you guess?
