What do you guys do with outdated computer equipment?

Josh: That is a good question. Always wondered that myself. Obviously Steadfast and other hosting companies try to resell them to other customers... but there has to be at least some computers left over that nobody wants
After the '.com boom' so much equipment was dumped into landfills it is just sickening. I could have used a lot of that stuff myself
Think of the dumpster diving opportunities at 350! Someone distract security!

Funny I was just looking how to get rid of some equipment just now and there are actually government programs in my area to take the following:
* Computer monitors and televisions
* Personal computers, keyboards, hard drives and printers
* VCRs, audio and video equipment
* Communication equipment such as cellular telephones and hand held radios
All the ones i've seen before this wanted you to pay them to take your crap and then they sell the metals and stuff and make money on it.

CRT monitors are a pain in the neck to recycle... and you don't make enough money selling the parts from those

Nothing we have is really outdated yet, even though we've been doing dedicated servers for over three and a half years. The oldest systems we have are in Pentium 4 2.4Ghz range and those are still easily sold. we have some older shared hosting systems which aren't too powerful, but they take the rolls as utility systems, DNS servers, etc.

I would like this option, though too realize that much of it is a bit of hype... the point is that we're *trying* right?
Carbon credits are becoming a lot more trustworthy, auditable, etc. That said, the best steps for you are also the most worthwhile economic steps, i.e., power reduction. consolidation, virtualization, etc. I'll bet you could get a lot off operational and marketing benefit out of that stuff.
