    Default What OS?

So, with the hopes of inciting some conversation here, I'm curious about what our customers and non-customers prefer for a desktop operating system.

You all know the choices. I'll divide it up a little bit to give a few more options. It's not going to simply be "Windows or Mac." There will certainly be Linux as an option, as well as options for different versions of Windows and Mac.

I primarily use Windows XP. I've tried all different *nix distros, but none ever really stuck. I guess I'm too used to Windows.

One thing I did notice was my productivity go way down on linux distros. I'm not entirely sure why (it may be inexperience, but after two or three days I was up and running fine on kubuntu), but once I got back into Windows I was able to do a lot more a lot faster.

Finally, I have a ton of nice little Windows apps I've found from all corners of the internet. Some of these apps didn't seem to exist with *nix, and I'm not really sure what I would do without them.

Nooo I clicked on the wrong button. I clicked on Linux Red Hat instead of Mac OSX...anyway...I would vote MAC OS X in a heard beat. OS X with Parallels running windows, linux, and BSD distros at the same time that is. Best combination I have used to date .

How do you click the wrong button?

    Oh well.

Is there a way to edit the poll results? lol...

Anyway. My preference is certainly Mac OS X. I'm not a Mac fanboy, but I do just like the OS. I don't really have anything against Windows. I just like Mac. It does everything I need it to. I do wish I had an Intel Mac so I could run Parallels for a few non-essential Windows programs, but I'm waiting for Leopard to upgrade.

I seriously wish I could prefer a RedHat-based Linux system (for example), though the applications I use and due to the fact that laptops don't seem to run easy and well with Linux (in my humble experience), I am forced to say "Windows XP"

My personal preference is Gentoo Linux. I run it on my laptop and my main desktop. I keep a Windows XP box around for playing games, and I still have a dual boot on my laptop... at least, until Parallels releases a 64-bit Linux version I can run Windows within.

I use Linux over 90% of the time though.

I'm coming from the Ubuntu (debian-based distro for those that don't know it) crowd , Kubuntu to more exact .I love KDE since it boosts my productivity a lot (and I mean a lot!).I only use WinXp when I really have to (school projects and stuff like that).
Haven't had the change to run OSX so far , I hope in the near future I'll try it.
As for BSD..how is it for a destkop computer ?

Hey kevin , you could use either VMware , KVM (requires a CPU with VT ), XEN(also requires a VT enabled CPU for running WinXP)for having a WinXp Virtual Machine running on your computer from within linux.
Also , you could try wine and maybe get lucky , but I assume you maybe already did that.
    Cheers!
