Default Bandwidth requirements for an internet radio station?

    Hello,

I have a customer of mine that is interested in having his own internet radio station, however I have not been able to find any information as to how much bandwidth a month one would need for say, 10 - 100 listeners.

Does anyone know how much bandwidth an internet radio station uses or know here I can find out?

    Hi.

Internet radio stations can take up a lot of bandwidth depending on the number of listeners and stream bitrate. For example, 10 listeners at 128kbps for a month is ~400GB (or ~1.4mbps concurrently) and 100 listeners at 128kbps for a month is ~4000GB (~14mbps concurrently). Here is a stream calculator that you can use to get a better idea about how much the particular stream bitrate and listeners would take in terms of concurrent bandwidth or monthly transfer:

(Sorry, didn't have enough posts to paste the complete link)

    Hope that helps.

I had a customer with around 70 listeners on their radio station. It used up around 2TB of bandwidth in one month. The stream was at 64Kbps if I remember correctly.

I would have never imagined that it would have used that much. I am not big in the internet radio scene though so that could be true.

I recommend finding a company that does that type of hosting and email the support department and explain your situation. If you still after trying that cannot find out feel free to email me at email@jameswv.com and I will see what I can do.

We've hosted some very popular radio station sites using 2 Gbit/sec+, but that certainly isn't the norm.

It would be fairly easy to calculate, multiply the bit rate by the average number of users to get a kbit/sec or Mbit/sec utilization level and convert that into GB per month.
