Question Deleting files via FTP - Access Denied

    Hey all,
for some bizarre reason, i'm unable to delete certain files off my own site, I just get a 'permission denied' message when trying to delete things. I dunno what else to say lol, ideas?

I'm using an ftp client for Firefox (FireFTP), I've tried using the built in windows one, but it just sits there calculating the time required to finish the operation and doesn't do anything.

Are your files uploaded from the web? (with ownership to apache, for example)

kind of, they were files that were originally in a tarball, but I extracted them using the filemanager in the control panel

Sounds like you'll have to delete them through the filemanager, because it may run as a different user account (not sure on this), so the server doesn't think you own the files, which means it won't give you permission to delete them, however you shouldn't have any problems deleteing them via filemanager.

lol, the file manager is fubar. I tried deleting the folder, Firefox just sits there loading the page, then eventually tries to download the php files from it. The other times it just scrolls php errors.

Try using a different FTP client. I use and recommend FileZilla, and it works like a charm. If you still can not delete these files (and be careful, because there are some files in your public_html or web directories that you do not want to delete), then send Steadfast a ticket. It is possible the ownership of these files could have been messed up, and you will need a super user to delete them.

The permissions are probably screwed up and the files are no longer under your control.

If you have root access, just delete the files. If you don't have root access, please open a support ticket and ask that they be removed.
