    Default Redirect

I have a cliet that purchased a SSL cert and set it up to use (https www dot clientsdomain.com) now of course when someone try to enter the site without the www the browser throws an error/warning. My question is is it possible to to redirect (https clientsdomain.com) to (https www dot clientsdomain.com).

I know .htaccess will not work in this instance as the browser will get the error before it can read the .htaccess file.

I've seen that even some big players' sites throwing the same error.

So maybe the only solution is to buy another one SSL certificate for just "clientsdomain.com".

Also it seems reasonable to contact the cert issuing company - I think they're facing this issue regularly.

    P.S.
If you find a solution, please mention it here, I believe this could be useful for many Sf customers.

PositiveSSL bought from namecheap will be valid for both domain.com and www.domain.com

Care to explain how that wold be possible?

Even a wild card SSL can not cover both the main domain and a subdomain.

It's possible for multiple common names to be specified by a certificate in an additional field. A lot will do this on request, but there are some that do it automatically.

A wildcard cert could cover the domain without a "subdomain" as well, though the one we have for steadfast doesn't, which is why we redirect SSL to 'secure.steadfast.net' on our order form even though our site strips "www" off non-SSL pages.

Thanks Kevin. I'll see if GeoTrust will add this for the client.
