Game servers

Hello,

Does anyone have any information on how game servers work, and if there are any free software that I can use to run one?

Do they handle the creation of accounts, and recording statistics about the games?

Steadfast offers TCAdmin game server control panel with their dedicated server cheaper than you can get it from TCadmin directly. Also with Steadfast, you get all of the game server files supplied and TCAdmin is installed for you. If you get a TCAdmin license directly, you have to install it and supply your own game server files

I'm trying to find some help with running a text based game server but at the moment it spends more time down than up :(
