Default Unable to resolve website using IP Address.

    Hi,
We are hosting a domain by ourself on windows 2000 server using IIS.

Our DNS name is working fine.

But when we give the IP address instead
of DNS name on any browser its not resolving.

And localhost is also not working.

The error message shows "HTTP 404 not found".

We inquired with our Domain registrant, they said that the IP (192.168.1.1)
    is pointing to the domain.

When using Nslookup with domain name its resolving our IP address correctly.

After that we assumed problem could be in our host set up on our dns management
which is translating our Domain name to IP address.

What should we have to do to resolve this problem?

We are awaiting for all your suggestions....

    Regards,
    Aravindh

What is the domain? Having that information would definitely assist us in seeing what the issue could be.

Though do you have the home directory for that IP set to the same one as for the domain? I am more familiar with Apache than IIS myself, but is it possible the home directories for the IP and the domain are setup differently?

    Dear Karl:

    Thanks for your reply.

But I'm not in position to give Domain name or IP address.
Its confidential for us. I'm really sorry to say this.

Anyway we are hosting a domain on IIS, that is having home directory
on the same IP itself, I mean on the same PC itself.

And I've not understand what your are trying to ask me exactly.
But we may have point the home directory from different PC also...

And I think these are all ok on our PC.

My exact problem is IP (Ex:-192.168.1.1) not resolving to the DNS name (abc.com).

    Any Idea?

    Regards,
    Aravindh

I think you should contact your provider or go to dns stuff?

Even if a domain is the only domain on an IP it won't necessarily show up on that IP as the systems in place are meant to support name based hosting with many domains on the same IP, thus the IP will not necessarily resolve to a specific domain. That is why I'm asking what the home directory for the IP itself is setup to, as know that at least n Apache those are separate configurations, setting the home directory for the domain and for the IP.
