    Default Questions about upgrading to dedicated IP

    Hello,
    I just recently signed our company up with steadfast, and have been very pleased with the service thus far. We have about 35 employees, and it is very important that our email is always up, and operating in the safest way possible. I have read that shared IP addresses are not desireable;

    The downside to shared IP's is that if someone sharing your IP happens to get in trouble for spamming or scamming, your IP can get banned or blacklisted. You may not even know it until your site disappears from the search engines or your email start getting blocked by ISPs. In shared hosting the actions of others sharing the server can effect your site and cause problems.
    We do not want to take this risk of being blacklisted from ISP's, and so we would like to upgrade to dedicated IP. My question is, how much does this cost?

    Thank you,

    Dedicated IP addresses for shared hosting accounts are available at $3 per month. These can be used on one domain.

    As a note, our dedicated IP addresses do not have any impact on the mail server. These dedicated IPs affect only the web site. Unless you plan to use SSL, anonymous FTP, or the Virtual FTP manager inside of H-Sphere, there is no reason that you should need a dedicated IP address.

    We unfortunately cannot provide a dedicated IP address for your mail traffic at this time. However, we work very hard to ensure that our mail server is not blacklisted. We have anti-spam measures in place to ensure that our mail server is much less likely to become blacklisted, and we follow-up on all abuse complaints in a timely manner. This provides a level of confidence to blacklist operators that we do care about this.

    Ray,
    Thank you for the prompt reply. I have two unrelated questions;

    1. For add-on domains, should I configure my registrar to point to the same Name Server as my primary domain?

    2. In the case my monthly bandwidth is exceeded, can I have my account automatically charged for the additional usage, rather than the standard email+suspension format?

    Yes, all domains on the account should be pointed to the same nameservers.

    As standard, we do not suspend accounts when they go over their bandwidth limit. The control panel notifies the customer prior to going over warning of the possibility. After that, the account is allowed to go over, until it reaches double the amount that has been paid for, whether through the plan or additional. Once it gets to double the allotted bandwidth, the account will be suspended, unless the bandwidth is paid for. Unfortunately, we don't have a way of customizing this on a per account basis.

    Ok, thank you Ray.

    And might I add, that I am very impressed with the professional way in which Steadfast is handled. It is clear that you guys have been doing this for a while, and are serious about this business. I am looking forward to doing long-term business with Steadfast, on my personal websites as well.

    (and no, I was not paid to say that)

    From DP?

    Domain Parking is just the idea of hosting a domain somewhere without the intent to use it to host content for the time being. Generally a generic parking page is used to indicate the domain is parked and otherwise unused for a web site.
