    Default www. vs nothing

I noticed years ago a trend to remove the www in addresses, or at least the ability to reach the same site without the prefix, I was wondering (seeing im in the process of registering a domain name) is the any actual benefits you've found or not found to having the www or if they both work and it isnt a consideration?

We've gone without www. in our primary URL for awhile now. I think it is always best to make things work with and without the www. though, as you don't want to lose any traffic in either direction, and the cost of an additional CNAME record is pretty darn low. We did it to just keep things short and simple. There really isn't much need for the www. anymore, as the HTTP protocol already defined as the protocol for the world wide web, so to use http:// AND www. seems redundant. In addition, previously it was useful to say www.yourname.com so people new it was a web URL, now if you just say yourname.com it is still commonly understood as the same.
