I was working on installing Wordpress and the WP Super Cache plugin which keeps giving me errors because there is no htaccess file in the root directory. Is there a standard one that's supposed to be there? If not is there a standard one I can download somewhere? It would be nice so that people don't have access to my directories as well. Sorry I'm somewhat new to all this.

SeVIIn, you will probably need to create one with your favorite text editor.
You can learn more in the WordPress documentation. (http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Creating_and_editing_.28.htaccess .29)
WP Super Cache is great, but it is a little trickier than most plugins to set up, so make sure you follow the install instructions closely.

I dont see anything about protecting my directories or stopping hot linking in that guide though. Is there a standard file I can download that does that and then add in the line for WP Super Cache?
Hi,
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/installation/
has the standard wordpress .htaccess. I'd expect it should've been installed during WP's installation, though. Try a cut and paste of the above and contact us at support if things don't work out.
Good luck!
