I used to be hosted through dot5hosting and even though their servers were horrible, email worked fine on my iPhone 3g. I set everything up the same way but I keep getting "cannot get mail, the connection to the server 'mail.modern-element.com' failed and when sending mail "the connection to the outgoing server "mail.modern-element.com" failed. It's set up through Thunderbird with the same setting and works flawlessly.

Here are the settings:

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.modern-element.com
User Name: kyle@modern-element.com
Password: ********

Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: mail.modern-element.com
User Name: kyle@modern-element.com
Password: ********

Incoming Settings:
Use SSL: On/Off (tried both)
Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response/NTLM/HTTP MD5 DIGEST/PASSWORD (tried all 4)
Server Port: 995 (this is the default, and the email setting page in cpanel doesn't show a preferred port)

I believe 995 is SSL. If you aren't using SSL then it should be 110 for POP3.

I don't use my Steadfast account for email, although I have briefly tried to make it work for outgoing mail (I have a program that likes to connect directly to the SMTP server, but it doesn't support SSL so I can't use my Gmail account), but never got it to work - share your answers if you get any.

You'll probably also get a much better response from Steadfast by simply opening a ticket with them, but again, please share your fix. :)

Hello,

I use steadfast email with my 3G IPhone, I'm using similar settings.

I do remember when I was setting it up, it took a very long time to connect, and gave me some weird messages, but after just leaving it for a while, it eventually sorted itself out.

Also when I go into advanced I see it says server port 993 for some reason, but I'm pretty sure its supposed to be 995 (that's what my outlook is using)

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
